You will learn about the dastardly kidnappers who made off with our flamingo and tried to extract a ransom from us.  And you will also read about its safe return.  Hopefully, you will soon learn of the kidnapper’s arrest and imprisonment.

So, take a look around and let us know what you think.  And remember, if you like what you see and think that Pine Island might be the place for you, just give us a call and let us show you how easy it is to become a Pine Islander.

How’s The Weather Where You Are?

According to news reports, there is now snow in 49 of the 50 states!  Yes, friends, there is snow not only in Maine and Montana, but also in Hawaii?  See what CNN has to say about it here.

Want to see what it looks like in snow-free Florida?

Florida is the only state in the US without snow!  Of course, we are not surprised.  The sun always shines on Pine Island.

Except when the sun sets, of course.

While in 49 states, people are doing this

We are doing this…

Hmmm…  Sort of makes all of you in the 49 states wonder why you aren’t in Florida, doesn’t it?  Well, we can help.  Give us a call.  Drop us a line.  Stop down and see us.  And we can make you snow free!

Snowman in Paradise

Sometimes it even gets cold in Paradise, aka Pine Island.  Take a look at this!

No, it did not snow here, but those Midwesterners and Northeasterners sent their frigid air down to visit us last night.  And it caused frost in St. James City!  No Snow!

So, it was time to make a snowman.  This is actually the first snowman that any of us have seen here in many years.  I guess technically he is a frostman since he was made from the frost on a car.  You can see the palm trees and the sunshine in the background.

The weather for the weekend is forecast to be in the 80’s, so we will need to keep Frosty in the freezer.

Give us a call and let us tell you how warm the weather usually is.

Thanks to Beth Sweet for making Frosty and taking the picture.

God Bless Us Every One

10 Ways to Make a Small Room Look Larger

Most people have one: that room in the house that they wish was just a little larger. What many don’t realize is that with a little work and some TLC, they could have exactly what they’re looking for.

Here, we offer 10 designer tricks to help you make any room look larger:

1. For the illusion of a larger room, use a color scheme that is light rather than bright or dark. Pastels, neutrals and white are all color possibilities.

2. Use a monochromatic color scheme on the furniture, rugs and walls. Select different shades and textures of your single color.

3. Lighting is a key element in opening up a space. Recessed spot lighting is visually appealing and is perfect for a small space. A torchiere light is great for bouncing light off of the ceiling and back down on the room.Skylights and solar tubes are natural alternatives for adding light to a room.

4. Limit the number of accessories to avoid the cluttered feeling.

5. The floor and the ceiling are the fifth and sixth walls of every room. A light-colored flooring such as light oak or a light-colored carpet will make the room appear brighter and more open. The same applies to the ceiling—use a light color or white to “open up” the space above.

6. Increase the appearance of the size of the room by adding wall mirrors. They not only reflect images, they reflect light and color. Be a little daring! Use mirror tiles to mirror an entire wall. Your room will appear to double in size.

7. Don’t place too many pieces of furniture in a small space. A love seat may work better than a full-size sofa depending on the size and shape of the room. Add two medium-sized chairs or two small wood chairs. Place the chairs closer to the wall and then pull them into the area when additional seating is needed.

8. Add paintings or prints to the walls. One large painting works better than a group of small paintings.

9. The visual balance of a room is also important. A large, brightly colored element can overwhelm a room and decrease the appearance of space.

10. A glass table, whether it is a dining, coffee or end table, will keep the appearance of an open and free space.

The End Is Near! (The end of the recession, that is.)

The pace of the national recovery is moderating and the lift spurred by nearly $800 billion in federal stimulus spending is fading, but there are several promising signs that growth will continue, including in Florida, a leading national fiscal analyst told reporters Friday morning.

Moody’s Analytics economist Chris Lafakis said the Federal Reserve will remain aggressive, with a quantitative easing plan that he equated to “basically flooding the global monetary system.” Lafakis predicted the strategy would lift asset prices, reduce corporate borrowing costs, and increase the willingness of consumers to spend.

Lafakis predicted substantial growth in Florida’s economy, mentioning that the Miami, Orlando, Ft. Myers and Tampa areas are expected to recover “quite significantly” due to a rebound in population growth and an increased willingness of people to travel to Florida for vacations. “The story of pent-up demand is true in no place more so than Florida,” he said.

Nationally, corporate balance sheets are strong and business profits have “fully recovered from the recession,” he said, adding that businesses are in a position to hire more employees, though their level of willingness varies.

“It’s truly the case that profit growth leads job growth,” Lafakis told state government reporters gathered for the annual conference of the Association of Capitol Reporters and Editors.

Household liabilities in the United States have fallen by $900 billion since peaking two years ago and a shift to spending and addressing pent-up demand for purchasing “creates a lot of economic juice,” Lafakis said.

This is great news for Pine Island!  We are already noticing a big pickup in traffic on our roads around here.  Bear in mind, however, that a big pickup in traffic means that we sometimes have to wait for a car to pass before pulling out of our parking lot.  Businesses are busier here than they have been for a long time.

What does this mean for someone planning to buy property here on the island?  I won’t go so far as to say that prices will start going up soon, but  the best properties and the best deals may be disappearing.  We have noticed an increase in showings and sales for about the last month.

Do you want to know what the best deals are before they are gone?  Would you like to buy your piece of Pine Island at prices not seen in over 10 years?  And, we can’t believe we am finally sayin this, but are you interested in what may turn out to be a great investment?  If so, give one of us a call and let us tell you what is available.

By the way, the Fed announced today that mortgage rates are now the lowest they have been since, well, ever.

Give one of us a call, and let us show you how now may be your “opportunity of a lifetime” to own property here at extremely affordable prices.
